CLDC Training Programme Offers Route Back To Employment

Clare Local Development Company (CLDC) has announced details of its Spring Training Programme which offers individuals who have been unemployed for 12 months or more and who are in receipt of a Social Welfare payment the opportunity to upskill themselves and increase their chances of gaining employment.

Between 200 and 250 places are being made available for a range of courses which get underway during February in Ennis, Kilrush, Ennistymon, Miltown Malbay and Scarriff.

Courses include micro-enterprise training, beginners and intermediate computer training, and a module dedicated to helping individuals improve skills in networking, communicating with potential employers, cover letters, CV’s, presentation skills.

Samantha McCarthy, CLDC Education and Training Coordinator commented: “Education can be a transformative experienced and this is especially true for long term unemployed persons who have undertaken CLDC courses in the past”.

She explained: “Significant resources and time is being invested by organisations such as CLDC into the area of education and lifelong learning. People are now being encouraged to reskill or upskill. Not only can education make individuals more competitive when the labour market reactivates but it also allows people to grow and develop as individuals, increasing confidence and giving them an opportunity to get out, meet new people and feel a sense of pride as they face new challenges.”

“CLDC encourages anyone who has been out of the labour market for 12 months or more and looking  to reskill or upskill themselves to consider taking part in one or more of the courses that we will be hosting during the spring months under the Local Community & Development Programme”, Ms. McCarthy added.

The Micro Enterprise Training course is designed to introduce participants to the world of business start-up, allowing them to gain the necessary skills to develop a business plan, learn about finance and create awareness as to how to avoid pitfalls faced by fledgling enterprises. The course will run one day (2.5 hrs) per week over 8 weeks.

Beginner and Intermediate computer skills courses will see participants being introduced to internet, email, social media, creating CV’s, application letters, research tools and job searching. Individuals who commence the Beginners courses will have the option of progressing to higher level courses with CLDC.  The Beginners course will run one day (2.5 hrs) per week over 8 weeks, while the Intermediate course will run one day (2hrs) per week over 10 weeks.

Meanwhile, the First Impressions course is targeted at individuals who are currently seeking employment and would like to improve skills in networking, communicating with potential employers, cover letters, CV’s, and presentation skills. The course will run one day (2.5hrs) per week over 10 weeks.
