Clare County Council establishes Emergency Call Centre

Clare County Council, following a meeting of the Local Co-ordination Committee and in response to Met Éireann's issuing of a Red Alert for strong winds on Wednesday evening and during Thursday morning, has established an Emergency Call Centre for members of the public.

The emergency number - 1890 252 943 - has been established for members of the public to report fallen trees, blocked roads and flooding. The number will be operational from 8pm this evening.

Clare County Council says it has received notification from Met Éireann warning that a severe storm will develop to affect Western fringe counties including Clare from Wednesday evening until mid-morning on Thursday.

Wind gusts of up between 130km/hr and 150km/hr are likely on higher ground and in exposed coastal locations of Clare over the period and the storm will also incorporate periods of significant rainfall.

"While the entire county will be affected, the most extreme impacts are likely to be along the coastline. The advice is not to venture out or to drive on exposed roads while these conditions prevail," said the Council.
