Clare County Council has confirmed that a homecoming event for the Clare U21 hurlers and management team will take place in the Abbey Street Carpark in Ennis town centre this Sunday (14 September 2014) from 6.30pm.
Mayor of Ennis Councillor Johnny Flynn and Cllr. John Crowe, Cathaoirleach of Clare County Council will officially welcome the squad and management team. Entertainment will be provided ahead of the team's arrival on stage.
Clare face Wexford in Saturday's Bord Gais Energy GAA Hurling All Ireland U21 Championship Final at Semple Stadium in Thurles and will be bidding for their third title in a row.
Speaking ahead of the game, Cllr. John Crowe said: "To win a historic third Under 21 title in a row would be a truly outstanding achievement for this group of players. Gerry O'Connor and Donal Moloney, along with the rest of the coaching staff, have made an outstanding contribution to underage hurling in the county ensuring that Clare will be well placed to challenge for Senior All Ireland titles in future years. Every Clare hurling supporter is proud of the team irrespective of Saturday's result."
Clare County Council is coordinating the homecoming event in association with An Garda Síochána, Clare Civil Defence, Clare Fire and Rescue Service and Clare GAA. In the event of a draw, the homecoming will be postponed until after the replayed game.
