Contest seeks personal memories of the Cliffs of Moher

Tying the knot at the iconic O'Brien's Tower, witnessing a massive cliff rock fall in 2009, and spotting a whale in the ocean below the Cliffs of Moher are amongst some of the public submissions received as part of a promotion hosted by the Cliffs of Moher Visitor Experience in County Clare.

The world-famous visitor attraction's 'Why I Love The Cliffs of Moher' contest is offering an all-expenses paid holiday to Ireland's Banner County in 2014 and runner-up prizes for the submissions that top a poll on www.cliffsofmoher.ie.

To enter, people are being asked to post a story of 300 words or less explaining why they love the Cliffs of Moher and post a photo from their Facebook albums to illustrate the story.

The launch of the contest follows the naming of the Cliffs of Moher as the third most visited tourist attraction in Ireland with 874,000 people visiting in 2012. In the first six months of 2013, there was a 10.5% increase in visitor numbers compared to the same period last year.

“With the support of local tourism operators and other numerous sponsors, we are delighted to be able to launch this contest in recognition of the millions of people who have visited the Cliffs of Moher down through the years,” explained Geraldine Enright, Marketing Manager, Cliffs of Moher Visitor Experience.

Ms. Enright continued: “We have already received submissions from all over the world in which people have shared a wide variety of memories of their visit to the Cliffs. They range from getting married at the Cliffs of Moher to catching a rare glance of surfers on the Cliffs of Moher wave called Aileens to being able to view The Aran Islands, Kerry Mountains, Loop Head and the Twelve Bens in Galway from the Cliffs of a clear day.”

Entries to the 'Why I Love The Cliffs of Moher' contest are being accepted up to 15th October 2013 and voting continues until 31st October 2013 after which the 10 entries with the highest number of votes received via Facebook and Twitter will be judged by an independent panel.

The top entry will be awarded an all expenses trip to Ireland and County Clare in 2014 including flights, 5-nights B&B accommodation in the 4-Star Old Ground Hotel, Budget Car Rental and free entry to various tourist attractions, as well as a Cliffs Moher cruise and a Bunratty Castle Evening Banquet. The 9 runners-up entrants will each receive Cliffs of Moher Goodybags.
