Limerick Local Authorities Manager, Mr. Conn Murray today (Wednesday, 24 October 2012) announced the creation of nine new Directorates as part of the ongoing process of merging Limerick City Council and Limerick County Council into one Limerick local authority.
The newly appointed/created Directors/Directorates are: Oliver O'Loughlin - Home & Community; Paul Crowe - Travel & Transportation; Josephine Cotter Coughlan - Water Services & Emergency Services; Caroline Curley – Environment; Pat Dowling - Corporate Services & Change Leader; Sean Coughlan/Pat Murnane - Finance & ICT; Jimmy Feane - Human Resources; Tom Enright - Economic Development & Planning; and Kieran Lehane - Culture & Sport.
Commenting on today’s announcement, Mr. Conn Murray said: “The purpose of creating these new Directorates is to ensure that the two Councils adopt a unified approach and that there is consistency in relation to the quality and level of services being provided by both organisations.”
In July 2011 Phil Hogan, Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government, announced that the Councils are to be merged in time for the Local and European Elections in June 2014.
According to Mr. Murray: “The amalgamation represents a unique opportunity for Limerick City and County, where there will be one voice for Limerick and where barriers between the two existing authorities will be removed. The new authority, which will be one of the largest local authorities in the State with an annual budget in excess of €250M and over 1,000 staff, will play a leading role the economic development of Limerick City and County.”
