More than 200 hill runners and walkers took part in the inaugural Boru3peaks event around Killaloe/Ballina at the weekend.
The majority of participants braved all three peaks with the overall title of King and Queen of the peaks going to Terryglass (Tipperary) man Eoin Wolley and Broadford (Clare) woman Loretto Duggan.
Funds raised will go to The Daughters of Charity Child and Family Services and the Clarisford Sports Ground Project which, once completed, will cater for hundreds of children and adults across the Shannon-side towns of Killaloe and Ballina.
The event was organised by the Boru Tri Club, the local Triathlon club in Ballina/Killaloe.
According to Orla Foley of Boru3Peaks: “Over one hundred participants reached the peak of Moylussa, the highest point in Clare, before lunch on Saturday, experiencing the crystal clear views over Lough Derg and the surrounding countryside. As night fell over ninety participants lined up under the stars to climb Tountinna (457m) in County Tipperary. It was a spectacular sight to see the lights moving up and down the hill such a clear night, lighting up the hill as it was once lit in the times of Brian Boru.”
“Sunday morning saw over 70 participants take on the challenge of keeper hill Co, Tipp (694mt) to be rewarded with the blanket of fog lifting to expose the breathtaking views over the Silvermines and rolling countryside beyond,” Orla added.
