Clare County Council has announced it will host an additional public information meeting in relation to the Limerick Northern Distributor Road on Tuesday, 27th March 2012 from 3 pm. until 8 p.m. in the Raddison Hotel, Ennis Road.
The meeting follows on from the decision to extend the closing date for submissions by a period of 2 months until 11th May 2012.
Once completed, the Northern Distributor Road project will link Coonagh with Parteen and Ardnacrusha before crossing the River Shannon to the North of the University of Limerick and onwards to the Old Limerick/Dublin Road. The project is being led by Clare County Council, in conjunction with Limerick City Council and Limerick County Council.
According to Tom Tiernan, Project Manager and Senior Engineer with Clare County Council: “The Council very much appreciated the level of response received at the first public consultation event at the Radisson Hotel in January. Over 450 people attended the event which underlined the huge public interest in the proposed project. It is very important that stakeholders are very clear regarding what the emerging Preferred Route Corridor proposal consists of so that they, in turn, can submit to the process in a meaningful and clear manner.”
Mr. Tiernan added: “We want to understand as fully as possible the genuine concerns of local residential, business and other interests, and we feel that this further consultation event will greatly enhance this understanding.”
Information on the emerging Preferred Route Corridor for Phase 2 will be on display with Local Authority personnel and representatives of Roughan & O’Donovan Consulting Engineers available to answer questions. All comments received at the consultation will be recorded and members of the public will be able to make submissions to Clare County Council up to May 11th 2012.
Views expressed during the consultation exercise will be considered in the context of the emerging Preferred Route Corridor for the scheme. Design of the Limerick Northern Distributor Road (Phase 2) will progress based on the corridor to be confirmed following the public consultation process, leading to the publication of an Environmental Impact Statement and Compulsory Purchase Order in due course.
The final determination of the Planning Process will rest with An Bord Pleanála.
