An Enterprising Day Out For The Taoiseach In West Limerick

Taoiseach Enda Kenny officially opened the new Broadford Community Enterprise Centre in Broadford, Co Limerick, today.

The building which has been completed with the support of Limerick County Enterprise Board, Limerick County Council and Enterprise Ireland, features four business units, two of which are already being utilised by local businesses.

According to Michael Pierce, Chairman, Broadford Community Enterprise Centre Committee: “There is strong community spirit in Broadford. This is exemplified by the many achievements in recent years, the development of houses for the elderly and families in need, the establishment of a community crèche and now the conversion of the old Creamery site into a state of the art community enterprise centre. We are especially proud that the Taoiseach, by visiting us, is acknowledging our endeavours.”

Speaking at today’s official opening ceremony, newly appointed Cathaoirleach of Limerick County Council Cllr. Mary Harty stated: “In pledging its support to the development of the centre, Limerick County Council has underlined its commitment to exploring and developing new ways of maximising economic activity and employment to assist those losing their jobs in County Limerick.”

“The long term benefits in both economic and social terms are very considerable and justify the commitment in terms of effort and money from all of the partners involved.

“The two Enterprise Centres that have being developed in Broadford and in Kilmallock, along with two other planned centres for Kantoher and Croom, will play a key role in facilitating enterprise development and job creation in their respective communities”, added the Cathaoirleach.

Josephine Cotter Coughlan, Director of Services, Limerick County Council commented: “The Council’s Community and Enterprise section - through its Business Support Unit - continues to liaise with all enterprise agencies to provide a range of supports and incentives to existing and prospective businesses.  The development of Community Enterprise Centres in locations throughout the County are complemented by the rollout of various other actions aimed at stimulating enterprise development”

Last month Limerick County Council announced the establishment of Business Support Clinics for local businesses aimed at assisting new and existing businesses locally.

Businesses across the County are being afforded an opportunity to meet with representatives of the local authority’s Business Support Unit (BSU), including officials from the Planning, Finance, Environment, Roads and Water Services sections of the Council to discuss their business plans and proposals. The monthly clinics pull together expertise from a number of sections to ensure joined-up service, support and advice for clients seeking business support. The meetings take place on the first Thursday of each month.

Meanwhile, a new business guide, entitled ‘Look to Limerick – We Have What You Need’, aimed at attracting business to County Limerick has been developed by the Business Support Unit. Information leaflets on local Authority charges, and business information services available in libraries throughout County Limerick have also been launched.
