Killeen Welcomes Bypass Opening

Minister for Defence and Clare Fianna Fail T.D., Mr. Tony Killeen has welcomed the opening of the 23km Gort to Crusheen bypass.

Work on the Gort to Tuam route will commence in 2011 and when finished (expected in 2014), motorists will be able to travel from Gort to Dublin by motorway. The new route will connect to the M6 Galway/Dublin Rd east of Oranmore and will bypass Tuam, Ardrahan, Kilcolgan and Clarinbridge.

Speaking on the occasion of the opening of the Gort/Crusheen bypass the Minister for Defence Tony Killeen TD said: “The Government is committed to investing in a safe and modern road network. This 23km road scheme that forms part of the Atlantic Road Corridor and the Trans European Road Network, will offer direct benefits for the people of Galway and Clare by reducing journey time and more importantly by providing a safer route.”

“This scheme improves regional cohesion from Limerick, Shannon, Ennis and Galway.  It has long been argued that the upgrading of this route is vital to the further development of services to Shannon Airport”, added the Minister.
