Film Director Jim Sheridan Launches Tourism DVD

Six-time Academy Award nominee Jim Sheridan at Glór in Ennis last evening launched a unique DVD promoting tourism in County Clare.

The film director joined hundreds of representatives from the Clare tourism sector at the launch of Clare ‘Live the Life’, which is the first marketing tool of its kind for the County.

The 30-minute feature is an initiative of the Clare Tourism Forum, which was established in 2005 to provide a collaborative approach to tourism promotion in County Clare.

The DVD will be distributed at national and international trade fairs. Visitors to the Clare Tourism website www.clare.ie also will be able to view the DVD online while some of Clare’s best know hotels will broadcast the feature through their in-room TV systems.

According to Forum Chairperson Rebecca Brew: “Clare’s tourism interests are clearly taking responsibility for their own and shared future and this is something that is being recognised throughout Ireland and further afield.”

“The tourism asset that we possess is unparalleled in Ireland and I have no doubt that the distribution of this DVD will help tourism in this County to prosper and benefit from the inevitable upturn in the economy. I am delighted that the local tourism sector is preparing itself for this eventuality. Thankfully, the launch of this DVD will ensure that Clare is at the forefront of drawing tourists from throughout the globe when the market begins to pick up again”, Ms. Brew added.

Speaking following last evening’s launch Joe Russell General Manager of Doonbeg Golf Resort said: “Since the establishment of the Clare Tourism Forum great strides have been made to promote the county as an attractive visitor destination, to both the domestic and international tourism markets alike. The launch of this DVD marks the next step in a collaborative process that has involved the time, commitment, resources and imagination of all tourism forum members.”

Last evening’s launch also featured live entertainment by singer Maura O’Connell, traditional music by local musicians, The Shannon Heritage entertainers and complimentary food from artisan and local food producers around Clare.

The DVD launch forms part of a wide ranging programme of promotional activities undertaken by the Clare Tourism Forum since it was established five years ago.

According to Maureen Cleary, Marketing Executive, Clare Tourism Forum: “The Forum has developed and distributed branded ‘Clare Live the Life’ tourism and school tours brochures, each aimed at boosting Clare’s profile in the tourism market.  The Forum’s Schools Tours Brochure was circulated to all primary schools in the region and beyond in 2009. The initiative will be followed up in early 2011 with the publication and distribution of a new regional brochure targeted at the primary and secondary schools market, in conjunction with Shannon Development.”

Ms. Cleary noted that a key platform for Clare tourism has been the development of two County Clare websites www.clare.ie and www.clareoffers.com.

“Both have been very successful sites with over 100,000 unique visitors in 2010 to date”, she said.

“Meanwhile, 150 golfers from throughout Clare have participated in ‘The Clare Ultimate Golf Challenge’, which concludes next week.  The inaugural competition, proceeds from which will go towards the Clare Tourism Forum’s 2011 marketing campaign, has seen over 400 golfers play all ten golf courses in the county”, she concluded.
