Minister for Defence and Clare T.D. Tony Killeen today welcomed Aer Lingus’ decision to commence a three times a week service from Shannon International Airport to France’s main air hub at Paris-Charles de Gaulle from December 17.
Minister Killeen described the announcement as a ‘’significant boost’ to the local business and tourism sectors.
“Management at Shannon Airport have been negotiating with various airlines to replace some of the business lost at the facility in recent months. The recent announcement by Aer Arann to expand its Manchester service along with today’s announcement will go a long way towards restoring confidence among travellers and protecting the future viability of the airport itself.
“Like London Heathrow, Paris provides quality connectivity to more than 200 non-stop destinations which is something that will be warmly welcomed by the business community and the people of the West of Ireland alike. The benefits of this new route for local tourism will also be considerable as the region has always being popular among French tourists.
“The route will no doubt be popular with the many people from this region who visit Disneyland Paris each year. The theme park and outlying accommodations providers are easily accessible from Paris Charles De Gaulle”, Minister Killeen concluded.
