Clare T.D. and Minister for Defence Tony Killeen says he has received confirmation from the Department of Education that it has approved additional classrooms for Scoil na Mainistreach in Quin and St Anne’s Community College in Killaloe.
Minister Killeen said that two additional classrooms for each of the schools has been sanctioned. The Department of Education says the schools have the option to purchase prefabricated accommodation or to build a permanent structure.
“This is very welcome news for the staff, students and parents. Both Killaloe and Quin have experienced a significant population increase, which has inevitably put pressure on class sizes at the local primary schools”, stated Minister Killeen.
Meanwhile, the Minister said he has received confirmation that additional accommodation has been approved for two other Clare schools under the Temporary Accommodation Scheme. A 1 x 80m2 Mainstream classroom has been approved for Scoil Mhuire in Lahinch while a 1 x 25m2 Resource Room has been approved for Ogonnelloe NS.
Ennis CBS has also been approved the rental of a 1 x 80m2 classroom for September 2010. Elsewhere, roof replacement and boiler replacement works have been sanctioned for the Convent Primary School in Killaloe, Holy Family Junior N.S. in Ennis and Lissycasey N.S.
Minister Killeen noted that the improvement works have been approved in addition to the recently announced Summer Works Scheme.
