Family claims war medal

A medal worn by a Clare soldier in World War One and found discarded in the gutter at Clarecastle Church, has been traced to his grand-daughter.

The medal, bearing the name Private Patrick King of the 2nd Battallion of the South Lancashire Regiment, was found covered in muck in the car park at Clarecastle nearly three years ago by local taxi driver Alan Barnes.

It now seems it belongs to the family of Frances Morrissey, of Townpike, in Ennis.
