River water in Clarinbridge and Kinvara is failing standards set by the Environmental Protection Agency or EPA.The results were given to members of the Western River Basin District Council at a meeting in Oranmore, the Connaught Tribune reports. The river water in Clarinbridge, Kinvara and the Corrib was described as moderate or poor which indicates polluted waters.
However river quality along the coast and west Galway was described as of good or high quality. 22 Members of the committee from Galway, Clare, Leitrim, Mayo, Roscommon and Sligo attended the two hour meeting where the official EPA results of water quality were given. A detailed water protection plan will now be sent to Galway city and county councils which they will have to implement.
