Ennis cleans up in litter survey

Ennis has come out on top of the latest litter survey once again.

The latest Irish Business Against Litter Survey of 55 towns and cities across Ireland has ranked Ennis third in the country and is declared "clean to European norms". Clare FM News reports today the survey of 55 towns and cities around Ireland carried out by An Taisce, revealed significant improvements in litter levels, with Cavan the cleanest town in the country. Cobh, at the foot of the league, was branded “seriously littered”, along with Bray and Tullamore.

Ennis maintained their "clean to European norms" status and was ranked third overall in the country. An Taisce said that all four of the approach routes surveyed coming into the town got the highest litter grade, creating a positive first impression of the town. This was sustained for the majority of other sites - Abbey Street was clean, fresh and clear of litter; the grounds of St. Anne's National School were meticulous and Roslevan Shopping Centre was clean and well served by plenty of litter bins. Overall, 60 percent of towns are "clean to European norms"...the highest percentage ever.
