Flood risk research to begin in late 2009

Work on preparing a flood risk management plan for the Shannon area could get underway within the next 12 months, engineers from the Office of Public Works have told Shannon Town Council.

According to the Limerick Leader newspaper, the OPW made a presentation to the Council on the state of Shannon's flood defences this Tuesday arising from a motion tabled by Cllr Tony McMahon.

Engineers carry out fortnightly visual inspections on the 24-foot high mud embankments protecting the town and the airport – which are belowsea level – from the Estuary.
