Ennis On Red Alert Ahead Of Fun Run

Two Santas at the starting line for the ‘5km Winter Road Race Series’, which took place at Lees Road at the weekend. The Ennis Santa Fun Runs takes place on 4th December 2010.
Fun runners, young and old, are being invited to register online for the inaugural Santa Fun Run taking place in Ennis at 10am on Saturday, 4th December.

The County Capital is expected to be transformed into a sea of red and white as hundreds of people take to the streets dressed as Santa Claus – suits for which are provided as part of the event entry fee.  Half the proceeds from the festive family event will be donated to Clare Crusaders.

Tomas Madigan, Joint CEO of Sports Academy International said: “The number of mass participation events taking place around Ireland has increased dramatically in recent years.  The upcoming 5km Fun Run will provide a healthy day out for individuals, groups and families  and at the same time will help raise funds for a worth cause”.

“The event is open to all ages and abilities and will be a thoroughly enjoyable experience for participants and spectators alike. There will be hot chocolate for every participant at the finish line and a commemorative medal for each and every finishing Santa. It will be a fabulous sight in the lead up to Christmas to see hundreds of Santas running for charity. We would encourage anyone wanting to join in to book now, while places are still available.

“The Ennis leg of the Santa Fun Run will start and finish at the Auburn Lodge. Participants will sprint, jog, or  stroll down Drumcliff road pass Lee’s road. The Santa Fun Run will then head for the west as participants continue on the Gort road back to the Auburn Lodge to complete the 5k loop”, Mr. Madigan added.

The Clare Crusaders was formed in 2005 by Howard Flannery to help Children with Special Needs in areas such as Cerebral Palsy, Autism, and Down Syndrome. We have a clinic in Barefield, County Clare, with 6 therapists providing speech therapy, occupational therapy and physiotherapy to 160 children in the Clare region free of charge. All funds are raised through volunteers and we do not receive government funding.  For more see www.clarecrusaders.ie.

Entry to take part in this year's event is €20 for adults and €10 for under-16s. For more information and to book your place on the run visit www.santafunrun.ie.  Participants may also register on the day. Registration opens at 8am at the Auburn Lodge Hotel.
