Nursing homes seeking state support must take NTPF route

County Clare's private and voluntary nursing homes wanting to get State support under the "fair deal" scheme will have to apply through the National Treatment Purchase Fund.

The NTPF will negotiate payment plans with the nursing homes on behalf of the State, reports the Irish Independent. The "fair deal" scheme allows people moving into a nursing home pay a maximum of 80% of their income towards the cost of their care.

People can pay for the remainder of the cost after their death by selling off assets. Homes which agree prices with the NTPF will be forwarded on to the HSE.
