Clare-owned JetBird prepares to take off

Clare man Domhnal Slattery's private jet taxi company, JetBird, took a step closer to its September launch today with the roll out of its flight booking system.

This represents the first phase of the launch of the on-line flight booking system ahead of its full commercial launch in September. While most scheduled commercial airlines currently offer an internet based, real-time booking service, no existing European private jet operators, whose services are by their nature unscheduled, provide such a service.

Customers can currently obtain a quote, and upon commercial launch will be able to make a booking and payment on Jetbird's website, reports Businessworld.ie. Similar to existing services provided by scheduled commercial airlines, the booking engine allows instant bookings.

Slattery, an Ennis native, is a founding shareholder in 'The Clare People' newspaper He is a former executive of Guinness Peat Aviation and made his name and fortune running another aviation leasing business, International Aviation Management, which he co-founded in the mid-1990s and sold on to Royal Bank of Scotland in 2001 for around £30m.
