A spokesman for the union representing more than 10,000 electricians has said a strike to begin on Monday seems inevitable.
Speaking on RTE's Morning Ireland programme, TEEU General Secretary Eamonn Devoy said: 'As things stand, the dispute looks inevitable.' Pickets are to be placed by electricians at more than 200 construction sites and at a number of manufacturing companies around the country.
The strike has been prompted by a dispute over a claim for an 11% pay increase.
