Pedestrian Bridge Proposed For Quin Road

Clare County Council plans to construct a pedestrian bridge over the Ennis-Galway railway line on the Quin Road in Ennis.

That is according to Minister of State and Clare T.D., Mr. Tony Killeen who said that the local authority was presently in discussions with CIE regarding the proposed development. According to Minister Killeen: “I received confirmation of the proposed pedestrian bridge following a written submission to the Council regarding the need to implement improved safety measures for pedestrians using the Quin Bridge on the main Quin to Ennis road. The narrow bridge, which has been upgraded in recent years, is heavily used by pedestrians travelling to and from Ennis town and the nearby Railway Station.”

He continued: “I have been informed by the Council’s Senior Engineer that the local authority presently has proposals to provide a pedestrian bridge across the railway immediately to the south of the existing vehicular bridge on the Quin Road. This new bridge would be in CIE property. Discussions between the Council and CIE regarding the details are currently ongoing.”

Minister Killeen said that Clare County Council was also examining funding options. “The Council is hopeful it can secure the required level of funding if the various CIE related issues are resolved quickly. The Council hopes to be in a position to implement the project later this year”, added the Clare T.D.
