Well known Dublin pub destroyed by fire

The well known Graduate pub on Rochestown Avenue in Killiney, Dublin has been destroyed by fire.

Five units of the Dublin Fire Brigade were called to the well known pub after the alarm was raised at 10.13am today. A number of members of staff were in the pub and were evacuated when the fire alarm sounded. An eyewitness at the scene said he saw smoke coming from the roof area but that the building was quickly engulfed in flames.

The Sallyglen Road, and Rochestown Avenue between the Killiney Shopping Centre and Johnstown Road, were closed while emergency services dealt with the incident.

Minister Haughey visits South Tipperary

The Minister for Lifelong Learning, Sean Haughey TD today paid a visit to South Tipperary to see at first hand the great work being done in the region on Adult Education and the Back to Education Initiatives.

During his visit, the Minister met with management and staff at the various centres and also spoke with the learners attending the facilities. The first stop on Minister Haughey's busy schedule was Cahir Adult Education Centre.

At the centre the Minister was shown the work being done on family literacy with Travellers. This programme supports 15 traveller women from around South Tipperary to create Story Sacks and Life Copybooks. The aim of Story Sacks is to give Traveller children the opportunity to explore their culture through play and also for Traveller adults to engage with their children and grandchildren in a format that highlights the positive aspects of Traveller culture through a medium that is accessible namely toys, games, photographs and stories.

The programme is funded by the Department of Education and Science through the Adult literacy programme.

Telemarketing firm creates 45 jobs in Cork

Telemarketing firm Zevas Communications is creating 45 new jobs at its call centre in Carrigaline, County Cork after signing a new deal with UPC, the parent company of Chorus NTL.

Zevas supports UPC by providing telesales and web sales services for its Irish operations. They have worked together for the past six years.

The company has a workforce of 90 in Carrigaline and was established in 2001.
