Planning permission has been granted for a 183-bed co-located hospital on grounds leased from Mid-West Regional Hospital in Limerick, private healthcare company Beacon Medical Group (BMG) announced today.
The new facility will represent an investment of almost €250m by BMG, the company said in a statement.
When fully operational the new hospital will directly employ 460 full-time staff, with additional indirect employment of approximately 690 people. Approximately 620 construction workers will be recruited to build the new hospital, the company said.

The Minister for Transport Mr Noel Dempsey T.D. today announced the appointment of Mr. David Dilger (pictured left) as the new Chairman of the Dublin Airport Authority, following the resignation of Mr Garry McGann earlier this year.
Mr Dilger is a former Chief Executive Officer of Greencore Group plc. Speaking today Minister Dempsey said: “‘I am very pleased today to announce the appointment of David Dilger as Chairman of the Dublin Airport Authority. David has a highly regarded track record at a senior level in business in Ireland over many years. I pleased that he has accepted this exciting appointment at a very challenging time in the aviation industry. I know that he will bring exceptional skill and drive to this new role.”
David Dilger, a Chartered Accountant by training, was Chief Executive of Greencore Group plc for many years prior to his retirement in April 2008. Prior to his appointment to Greencore Mr. Dilger was previously Chief Executive of Food Industries plc following a term as Group Finance Director of Woodchester plc (now GE Capital).
