Coughlan Appointed County Manager

A new county manager has taken over in County Clare.

At yesterday's county council April meeting, the 32 members formally ratified Tom Coughlan for the €146,845 a year position.

The 51 year old has secured a seven-year contract. Mr Coughlan has served in a variety of senior executive positions in Clare since 1995.

Shannon Helicopter in marine search and rescue operation

The body of a missing fisherman has been found off the coast of Co Galway, in a search and rescue operation involving the Shannon Rescue Helicopter.

The fisherman's body was recovered from the sea off Omey Island west of Clifden this afternoon. A second man is still missing. The two men went missing this morning after setting out in their currach at around 8.30am.

The coastguard was contacted when the men did not return. The engine of their vessel was later recovered, RTE News reports.
