Safety Information Day for Limerick's elderly

Older people from across Limerick City and County are being invited to a safety information day later this month.

Hosted by Limerick City Community Safety Partnership, the event will feature important personal and home safety information and demonstrations for older people, as well as nutritional advice.

Advice and literature on a range of issues will be provided on the day by agencies including An Garda Síochána (personal safety), Limerick City and County Council, Home Instead Senior Care, Limerick Fire and Rescue Service (Home Safety), Tait House Community Enterprise (Insulation), the HSE (Occupational Therapists).

The Safety Information Day for Older People will take place on Tuesday 30th September 2014 from 11.am to 4.pm at St Johns Pavilion on Mulgrave Street.

Geraldine Tuite, Team Leader, Limerick City Community Safety Partnership, explained that the event is open to older people from across Limerick City and County as well those involved with the care of older people, from health professionals and housing officers through to home carers and community workers.

"This is the second occasion we have held one of these type of events for older people in Limerick. The success of the first event demonstrated the value of bringing statutory and voluntary organisations together to give information, advice and support to help older people stay safe and play a full part in their local community. It is hoped we can attract more than 200 people to this year's Safety Information Day."

The upcoming event will also feature raffles for items including energy saving light bulbs, torches, keep warm blankets and nightlights. Free refreshments will also be provided throughout the day. There will also be a giant hamper give away worth €150 at the end of the day.

The Limerick City Community Safety Partnership was established in 2006. A team of three Community Coordinators, who work in the Northside, Southside and Centre of the City, operate under the objectives of promoting community safety, improving the environment, promoting community spirit and raising awareness of the Partnership's aims through education.
