Members of the public in County Clare are being invited to play their part in the formulation of a 6-year social and economic development plan for Ennis and surrounding areas.
The new Ennis and Environs Local Area Plan 2015-2021 will guide the development of the Clare county capital and its environs in terms of economic development, recreational and community requirements, as well as residential, retail, transport and infrastructural needs. A draft of the Plan is due to be completed by the end of 2014.
“The Local Area Plan will seek to guide and facilitate the future growth and economic and social development of Ennis. Therefore, it is vitally important that the Council receives the input from all sectors of the community,” stated Mayor of Ennis Cllr. Johnny Flynn.
Mayor Flynn added: “The overarching aim of the new Plan will be to continue to grow Ennis and its Environs in a well-planned and sustainable way, providing a good quality of life for those who reside and work in the town and an enjoyable experience for those visiting it."
Gordon Daly, Senior Planner with Clare County Council explained that the Ennis and Environs Local Area Plan will be a replacement plan for the current Ennis & Environs Development Plan 2008-2014.
He continued: "Public consultation had commenced on the preparation of a replacement plan in January 2013 but following reforms announced for Local Government including the abolition of town councils a decision was taken not to continue with this process as the plan would not have been completed by the time the reforms which took place in May of this year came into force. Elected Members recently gave the green light to commence the preparation of the new plan at the first meeting of the newly established Ennis Municipal District."
"Community groups, individuals and stakeholders are encouraged to make written submissions or observations no later than 4 p.m. on Tuesday 29th July 2014. There will be an opportunity later in the process for the public to further express their views and make additional submissions," added Mr. Daly.
