Ennis community groups take part in Spring Clean event

14 community organisations from Ennis participated in a community clean-up event throughout the town at the weekend, as part An Taisce’s annual National Spring Clean campaign.
Ennis Town Council, in conjunction with the Ennis Tidy Towns Committee and other local voluntary organisations, organised the event during which volunteers were involved in the clean-up of approach roads to the town, along with green areas, footpaths, roads and streets in both residential areas and housing estates.

Participating groups included Clare Civil Defence, Banner GAA club, The Lions Club, Mens Shed Group, Clare Water Safety, Womens Shed Group, Ennis Swim Club, Irish Red Cross, An Garda Síochána, McDonalds, Pieta House, Ennis Parish, Ennis Tidy Towns and Ennis Town Council.

Ennis Town Council Environmental Warden, Gerry Murphy thanked the local community for their support at the weekend. He continued: "Ennis is a vibrant tourism town and the Town Council is very appreciative of the efforts of local volunteers to enhance the appearance of local communities through their participating in this annual event and their work throughout the year. Being part of this National Spring Clean event has also helped Ennis to strengthen its Tidy Towns application," he added.

"The National Spring Clean campaign is now in its 15th year and it is a testament to the community spirit all over Ireland that the participation rates have continued to grow year on year. We are particularly delighted that this year, more than 30 housing estates committees and voluntary groups in Ennis will be undertaking clean-ups during April," added Mr. Murphy.

Local groups wishing to participate in National Spring Clean are required to register their event and receive a free clean-up kit from An Taisce at www.nationalspringclean.org, by phone on 01-4002219 or by completing a registration form. Forms are available from Mairead Griffin, Environment Section, Clare County Council, New Road, Ennis on 065-6846386.
