New fund for Clare’s Creative Industries Sector

Clare Senator Tony Mulcahy is urging Clare businesses in the Creative Industries Sector to consider applying for finance under the Western Development Commission's (WDC) Micro-Loan Fund.

The WDC is now accepting applications for the fund which is a closing date for applications of Monday, 31st March, 2014. The pilot fund will see €1m being allocated over a three year period.

“County Clare has always had a large number of businesses, both start-up and existing, involved in the Creative Industries Sector,” commented Senator Mulcahy, “These businesses are involved in a number of sectors including Digital Media, Crafts, Advertising, Music, Internet and software, and visual and performing arts. Finance, especially in these straightened times, can often be difficult to access which is why I warmly welcome the establishment of this Fund.”

The Micro-Loan Fund will operate on a competitive ‘Call for Applications’ basis with four calls in 2014, the first of which has just been issued by the WDC.  Loans of between €5,000 and €25,000 over 1 to 5 years at the EU reference rate for unsecured lending are available to successful applicants. The first Call for Applications of 2014 is now open and closes on 31st March, 2014.

“If any Clare business operating in the Creative Industries Sector feels that this type of funding will help grow their business, and they have the capacity to repay the loan, then they should consider applying for a micro-loan,” added Senator Mulcahy.
