The award-winning County Limerick Youth Choir will open its doors to new members on Saturday March 1st when it holds auditions at Limerick County Hall in Dooradoyle.
The nationally renowned group is seeking singers, aged between 17 and 26 years, to be part of a vibrant choir which performs contemporary and classical music.
“All types of singing voices are welcome,” explained Choir Director Máire Keary Scanlon “but boy’s voices are particularly wanted. The choir has a lovely blend of male and female voices which we are anxious to keep. An ability to read music is not compulsory, but preferable.”
Since it was established by Limerick County Council Arts Office in 2006, the County Limerick Youth Choir has won scores of awards including first place at Best Limerick Choir at Limerick’s Sacred Music Festival, National Youth Choir in 2010 and the highest achieving choir at the Cork Choral Festival. The Choir has also participated in Choral Festivals abroad in Vienna and Nice.
According to Bríd Quinn, Limerick County Council Arts Office: “The Choir meets each Saturday at Limerick County Hall for its weekly practice. The emphasis is on giving young people the opportunity to enjoy singing a range of classical and contemporary music. Choir membership is made up of students from schools in the city and county and from third level students from various national colleges of education.
“We are inviting anyone interested in joining the County Limerick Youth Choir to please make an audition appointment with the Arts Office, and to come along and sing their favourite song,” Ms. Quinn concluded.
