Clare County Council update on weekend flood risk

Clare County Council is reporting that all river systems throughout the county are “very elevated” following continued heavy rainfall in recent weeks.

With further significant quantities of rainfall expected, the Council has warned there is a risk of flooding at various locations throughout Co Clare over the coming days.

Areas in South East Clare which are in the zone of influence of the River Shannon are particularly vulnerable. People in all areas which have previously flooded should be vigilant and should take appropriate precautions.

The Council is closely monitoring the situation particularly in South East Clare and Ennis and any necessary actions are being implemented. Regular contact is being maintained with the ESB.

The situation is being monitored continuously and contingency arrangements are in place to deal with any flooding incident.

The Council is also in regular contact with the National Emergency Coordination Centre (NECC). In the event of circumstances requiring it, Clare County Council will initiate the approved framework for Major Emergency Management, which would involve the immediate setup of a Crisis Management Team. The Council has already met with the GardaĆ and other agencies regarding preparations for any possible flooding incident (s) in County Clare.
