The organisers of the Armada Willie Week Festival of Music and Dancing in County Clare have announced a major expansion of the festival programme this year to coincide with the event’s 30th anniversary.

The annual festival, which will be held at the Armada Hotel in Spanish Point from 5-14th July, will feature a 10-day programme of afternoon and night-time set dancing sessions and for the first time, a nightly country music programme from 8th July to Saturday 13th July

The Festival coincides with the 41st Scoil Samhraidh Willie Clancy in nearby Miltown Malbay, the hometown of the late Piper.

Amongst the Ceili Bands lined up to perform during the Willie Week Festival of Music and Dancing are Five Counties, Abbey, Swallow’s, Striolán, Micháel Sexton, Brian Ború, Star of Munster, Johnny Reidy and Deenagh. Meanwhile, headlining the ‘Keeping it Country’ nightly marquee dancing will be special guests TR Dallas, Mick Flavin, Kathy Durkin and Trudi Lawlor, along with the popular resident duo PJ Murrihy and Micháel Sexton. The festival also will feature dancing lessons for beginners, music and song sessions in Johnny Burke’s Pub, and a BBQ each night in the Armada Hotel Courtyard.

Frank Minogue, General Manager of the Armada says more than 5,000 people are expected to attend the ten-day Festival. He added: “We are delighted to be able to expand our offering this year to celebrate 30 years of the Willie Week Festival of Music and Dancing being held at the Armada.”

“Each year we have seen Ireland's largest traditional music summer school and our Festival grow in popularity and we look forward to once again playing our part in showcasing the traditional heritage of both Miltown Malbay and Spanish Point to thousands of people from all over Ireland and abroad,” Mr. Minogue stated.
