Limerick Youth Service Gathering event marks 40th anniversary

Volunteers who have contributed to the development of Limerick Youth Service during the past four decades will travel from all over the world to participate in a special Gathering Limerick 2013 event next week.

The Clarion Hotel will host the Limerick Youth Service (LYS) 40th Birthday Celebrations on Friday May 24th.

LYS was founded in 1973 by the late Sr. Joan Bowles. Today the organisation works with over 3,000 young people annually in providing a diverse range of educational, social, training and personal development programmes.

Dermot Troy of Limerick Youth Service explained: "The evening is an opportunity for LYS to say thank you for the contribution that volunteers have and continue to give to our young people. Former volunteers from the UK and beyond will mingle with those from closer to home to exchange stories of their time with LYS."

“40 years on, LYS remains committed to supporting and encouraging young people to be active participants in shaping their futures. We are constantly looking for new volunteers to join us. We run a Volunteer Induction Training Programme, which consists of classes giving volunteers a taste of life in LYS and covering topics such as ice-breakers, role play and Cascade Child Protect Training. We would urge anyone interested in becoming a LYS volunteer to visit www.limerickyouthservice.com," he added.

The Limerick Youth Service Volunteer Evening takes place at the Clarion Hotel, Ennis Road, Limerick, on Friday, May 24th from 7.30-11.00pm. The event is free and open to the public. For more call 061-412444.
