A group of Czech and Slovak nationals participating in an Adult Education woodwork and metalwork course this week presented Active Ennis Leisure Complex with three public benches for use at the Highfield Road facility.
The benches will accommodate visitors in the public entrance foyer and reception area of the Complex. The project was funded by the Clare Family Learning Project (CABES) and facilitated by the Clare Adult Basic Education Service.
According to Tim Forde, General Manager of Active Ennis Leisure Complex: “We are delighted to have received these three benches. We are fully supportive of adult learning and the work carried out by CABES, which provides opportunities for adult learners to improve their learning confidence. Encouraging self-development and participation is central to our own ethos and we are delighted to be able to help raise awareness about the services provided by the Skills Unit on the Gort Road Industrial Estate, which is an exciting venue for those interested in learning about metalwork, woodwork, cookery, computers, hair and beauty.”
Mary Flanagan of CABES / Family Learning added: “This group have been working on the bench project since January. The men are interested in obtaining work locally and were able to showcase their skills creating three benches for the local community. Clare Family Learning Project funded the class and are delighted with the results. Getting the opportunity to handle the large machines and tools that are used in the workplace has been very beneficial to the group.”
Clare Adult Basic Education Service (CABES) is the VEC’s basic education service for County Clare. There are four strands to the service: Basic skills, English Language Programmes, Family Learning Project and Workplace Learning.
