Mulcahy welcomes deferral of closing off of Traditional Hay Meadows

Clare Senator Tony Mulcahy has welcomed the announcement by the Government of its decision to defer the closing off of Traditional Hay Meadows under the Agri-Environment Options Scheme (AEOS).
The Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Simon Coveney TD, today announced a deferral of one month from 15 April 2013 to 15 May 2013.

According to Senator Mulcahy: "The early part of the year saw heavy rainfall across County Clare which was followed by colder than average conditions for a six week period up to this week. March, for example, was one of the coldest Marchs in County Clare for over 50 years. As a result, the inclement weather has resulted in severe shortages in animal fodder and I believe this extension is very much justified."

"AEOS scheme participants in County Clare who have selected the Traditional Hay Meadow option and who wish to avail of this easement must observe in full all other AEOS scheme requirements regarding the Traditional Hay Meadows option as set out in the AEOS specification. I advise farmers to visit www.agriculture.gov.ie for further information," the Senator added.
