The Irish Accommodation Services Institute (IASI) will hold its annual conference and the National Accommodation Awards 2013 at the Armada Hotel in County Clare this Saturday (26 January 2012).
The Institute, which was founded in 1985, was formed as a forum to promote standards and share experiences within the Hospitality Industry.
The theme of the 13th national conference is ‘The Career Path of Accommodation Managers’. Speakers include Mary Flannery (Ashford Castle Hotel), Stella Sloane (Shannon College of Hotel Management) Viviene Brogan (Emmaus Conference Centre), Dolores Deasy (Failte Ireland) and Liz Smith-Mills (Hotel Consultancy firm, Diversey).
The Awards scheme, which is designed to recognise excellence in all aspects of Accommodation Services and Standards, features eight categories honouring 3, 4 and 5 Star Hotels, Boutique Hotels, Bed & Breakfasts and Guest house, Hospitals, Nursing Homes, and Colleges/Schools.
The awards will be presented during the President’s Gala Dinner by Fair City actress Aoibhin Garrihy. Guest of honour will be Doreen Graham, CEO of Clare Local Development Company.
IASI President Ines Guerra, who is also Executive Accommodation Manager at Carlton Hotel Dublin Airport, explained that the upcoming conference and awards evening will highlight the “ongoing requirement for Ireland’s hospitality sector to maintain the highest quality standards”.
Ms. Guerra added: “In an increasingly competitive international market our members must ensure they are delivering the highest quality service at all times. The Conference will enable members to share their experiences from the past year as well as discuss ways of working together to ensuring that the Irish hospitality sector and those it employs are best placed to deal with the challenges that lie ahead.”
The host-venue, The Armada Hotel and its sister property Hotel Doolin are previous winners of IASI awards. Hotel Doolin has won the National Supreme Award for Boutique Hotels, while the Armada Hotel was named overall winner of the 4-Star Hotel category in 2011 for achieving excellence in accommodation service standards for quality, hygiene and cleanliness of its bedrooms and public areas.
Accommodation Manager for both properties Marian Murnane, who is also one of the longest serving members of staff in the Armada Hotel, said the awards scheme is “a very useful benchmark for accommodation providers throughout the country”.
Commenting on securing the event, Armada Hotel Manager Frank Minogue stated: “The management and staff of the Armada look forward to welcoming this prestigious event to County Clare for the first time. We are particularly pleased to have been selected as the host venue considering the number of other high profile hotels competed to host this year’s event.”
