Ennis Town Council Unveils Environmental Events Calendar

Students and teachers from Ennis Community College and Gaelcholáiste an Chláir this week assisted Ennis Town Council with the launch of its 2013 Environmental Initiatives Calendar.

The Calendar documents some of the successful community environmental initiatives undertaken throughout the town during 2012 and profiles some of the projects that are scheduled to take place next year.

The Calendar features photographs of community and Council environmental initiatives carried out during the year, including the Bin Your Gum campaign, Bike Week, Spring Clean and the Reusable Shopping Bags scheme.

Council Environmental Wardens Gerry Murphy and Nora Murphy this week met with local primary school students to promote some of the annual environmental events and initiative staking place in 2013.

According to Mr. Murphy: “Ennis Town Council has been very proactive during the past 12 months in promoting environmental awareness throughout the local community. We have been ably assisted by voluntary groups, schools and businesses in highlighting the importance of keeping the Clare County Capital free of litter, as well as promoting environmental awareness within the local community.”

Mr. Murphy noted that a number of environmental initiatives are scheduled to take place around the town during 2013 including the hugely successful Spring Clean campaign, an anti-litter initiative organised by An Taisce and funded by the Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government.

He added: “Each year, staff from Ennis Town Council join the Ennis tidy towns committee and volunteers from communities and businesses in cleaning up all the approach roads to Ennis, along with the green areas, footpaths, roads and streets in both residential areas and housing estates. This work is supported by a range of other Council-supported initiatives, including the Priming Grants Scheme for Residents Associations, the Bin Your Gum campaign, and of course, Ennis’ participation in the National TidyTowns Competition.”

Copies of Ennis Town Council’s 2013 Environmental Initiatives Calendar are available while stocks last from the Council Offices at Waterpark House, Drumbiggle. Calendars are also being distributed to schools and local businesses.
