Senator Tony Mulcahy says he has received confirmation from the Department of Health that six Clare organisations are to receive grant aid totalling almost 200,000 euro.
The National Lottery Discretionary fund provides once-off grants to organisations, providing a range of health related services. 124 organisations throughout Ireland are to receive combined funding of 2,327,132 euro under the scheme.
Commenting on the background to the National Lottery Grant Scheme, Senator Mulcahy said: "Applications come primarily from community groups and voluntary organisations with an involvement in the provision of health services to specific client groups, national groups providing information and support for various disabilities and illnesses, and groups with a specific interest.
Senator Mulcahy said the funding confirmed for Clare groups this week will enable a series of local health-related projects to proceed. “All in all these projects are hugely positive developments for the people served by the organisations in question, along with their families. The Government is committed to supporting community-based organisations such as those in receipt of funding in Mountshannon, Ennistymon, Ennis, Newmarket on Fergus and Kilmihil,” he added.
40,000 euro is being allocated to Friends of Ennistymon Hospital Ltd. towards the cost of purchasing an 18-seater Mercedes Sprinter mini-bus. Kilmihil Active Retirement Association is to receive 2,000 euro towards the cost of publishing a local history book produced by the group. 19,146 euro is being allocated to Carrigoran House towards the cost of providing satellite catering facilities for the Newmarket on Fergus centre.
Elsewhere, Brothers of Charity Services has received 100,000 euro towards the cost of renovating and remodelling the existing workshop, 35,000 euro has been granted to Home Share Clare towards the cost of constructing facilities to accommodate respite breaks in a family home for children, and the Mountshannon based Generations in Action is to receive 600 euro towards running an intergenerational programme between senior citizens and school children.
