Members of the public are being invited to attend the official switch-on of the Christmas street lights in Ennis this Friday evening.
The lights will be switched on by the Mayor of Ennis Cllr. Peter Considine at 5pm in the Marketplace. Entertainment will be provided by local primary school choirs and theatrical group, Pantaloons.
Mayor Considine explained: “Ennis Town Council is switching on the lights earlier than normal this year after the local business community suggested that such an action would help to further enhance the shopping experience as well as improve trade around the town during the pre-Christmas period.”
The Christmas Lights scheme is complemented by the Christmas Parking & Pedestrianistion Initiative, which has been developed following a recent consultation between business representatives and Ennis Town Council with the key task of promoting shopping in Ennis over the Christmas and New Year period.
According to Mayor Considine: “The pedestrianistion of Ennis on the 15th, 22nd, 23rd and 24th December, coupled with other initiatives in the town that are being supported by Ennis Town Council, should make Ennis a very attractive shopping destination during the festive period.”
The 2012 Christmas Parking Initiative, which is being sponsored by Ennis Town Council, will also feature free on-street and off-street parking up to 12 noon daily from 1st December to 6th January 2013. Parking at Cloughleigh car park will be free during the same period. Low cost parking is also available at the long-stay car park in Glór (€3.90 for 8 hours).
Mr. Leonard Cleary, Ennis Town Clerk, noted that the Council will be promoting the Christmas Parking & Pedestrianistion Initiative during the coming weeks. He said: “Ennis Town Council will run radio advertisements throughout December. Notices will also be posted on Ennis Town Council website, while a link on the new Visit Ennis website will advise the public regarding the free parking scheme.”
