Green Light For Cappamore’s New Library And Arts Studios

Limerick County Council today welcomed the announcement by the Department of Environment, Community & Local Government of its decision to approve of a capital grant of €559,000 for a new refurbished state–of-the-art Library at Cappamore.

As part of the overall project, an additional capital grant of €149,000 has been approved by Ballyhoura Development Limited for the construction of four Arts Studios.

Cllr Jerome Scanlan, Cathaoirleach of Limerick County Council said: “Cappamore Library and Arts Studios project is a key strategic element in Limerick County Council’s Library & Arts Development Plan for the delivery of a modern range of services to the public in east Limerick. In recognition of this Limerick County Council is providing matching funding of €266,000. Cappamore Development Association is contributing €10,000 towards the cost of the project.  This represents a combined Capital investment of €1m in Cappamore.”

Mr Conn Murray, Manager of the Limerick Local Authorities welcomed the announcement and said: “The new 242sq.m library will allow for the full refurbishment of the former Boys’ National School as an adult lending library and the construction of an 118sq.m. extension for a new children’s library.  The new library provides a range of services including an adult and children’s lending service, a local studies and reference service, public and civic information services and public access to IT.”

Mr. Murray added: “The 143sq.m Arts space will provide four modern Art Studios. This will support artistic vibrancy in the rural community and provide vital support to artists in developing their career and business acumen. The project will provide a space for artists to create work, thus preventing the loss of this important skill set from the local community.”

Construction will commence shortly and it is anticipated that the Library & Arts Studios will be completed and open to the public by summer 2013.
