Clare County Council has confirmed that the presentation of awards in the 2012 “Clare in Bloom” and the “Best Kept Local Authority Estate” competitions will be held at Áras Contae an Chláir in Ennis on 8th October 2012.
The annual event will be hosted by the Mayor of Clare and the County’s Elected Members following their October Monthly Meeting.
The awards are a mark of Clare County Council’s programme of sustaining positive and co-operative working relationships with local groups.
The ‘Clare in Bloom’ competition is a motivational mechanism for local community groups throughout the county to enhance the visual impact of their towns and villages by means of flower, tree and shrub planting schemes. Entry categories are based on population size with awards presented for the overall winner; the Mayor’s Environmental Award and a first, second and third prize in each category. St Mary’s Lissycasey scooped the overall award in 2011, while the Mayor’s Environmental Award was awarded to Tuamgraney Development Association.
In 2011, 26 local authority residents associations were honoured in the ‘Best Kept Local Authority Estate’ competition. The overall winner was Millstream, Killaloe, which was awarded an engraved limestone plaque and the Mary Hennessy Memorial Award.
Speaking about the awards schemes, Mayor of Clare Councillor Pat Daly said: “Clare County Council, supported by numerous sponsors throughout the County, recognises the importance of rewarding residents associations and community groups for their work in enhancing the physical, environmental and community fabric of their neighbourhoods, towns and villages.”
“I wish to acknowledge the work that is being done by community groups and residents associations behind the scenes and thank them for their valuable contribution to their communities. I also wish to thank Shannon Development, Roche Ireland and ESB for their kind sponsorship of the Clare In Bloom competition,” Mayor Daly added.
The joint competition awards night takes place at Áras Contae an Chláir, New Road, Ennis, on Monday, 8th October, 2012, at 7:00 p.m.
