Ennis Leisure Complex To Host Charity Olympics

Ennis Leisure Complex has announced details of a series of competitions to mark the beginning of the London 2012 Olympics next Friday, 27 July.

The events include the Fastest Mile Time in the Gym and a competition to see who can clock up the most swimming pool lengths in a half hour period.

All proceeds from the events, which will be held from 27 July to 02 August, will go towards Special Olympics Ireland and St. Anne’s School in Ennis.

The Charity Olympics also coincide with the introduction of extended opening hours for the swimming pool at Ennis Leisure Complex. The pool is now open to members of the public from 7am (Monday to Friday) throughout the summer.

“The upcoming swimming and gym competitions are being held to mark the games of the 30th Olympiad in London, and at the same time raise much needed funds for two worthy local causes,” explained Tim Forde, General Manager, Ennis Leisure Complex.

“In the first event, we will award a prize of 3 months membership to the pool and gym at Ennis Leisure Complex for the winning participants in three categories, namely Triathlon Competitor, Masters/Club Swimmer, and Active aged 55 years plus.  The entry fee is €5 and all proceeds go to St Anne’s School in Ennis.

“In the second event, we will present 6 months membership to the pool and gym to the fastest mile time recorded on the treadmill by participating males and females. The entry fee is again €5 with each competitor allowed a maximum of five attempts. All proceeds will go to Special Olympics Ireland,” added Mr. Forde.

Ennis Leisure Complex is located on Highfield Road in Ennis. The Complex features a state of art gymnasium, 25m swimming pool and kids pool, two saunas, and two steam rooms.  Further information is available from (065) 6821604.
