The sod was turned this week on a Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) at Tim Smythe Park in Ennis, County Clare.
Ennis Town Council recently entered into a contract with Crawford Contracts Group Ltd. for the all-weather sports facility, which features a polymeric surface than can accommodate a wide variety of sports and games through the use of multifunctional goals and nets.
Soccer, basketball, netball, tennis, hurling and volleyball are among a wide range of games that can be played on the MUGA. The concentration of this MUGA is one that will particularly suit basketball.
Speaking the turning of the sod at Tim Smythe ark this week outgoing Mayor of Ennis Cllr Michael Guilfoyle stated. “The provision of a MUGA at Tim Smythe Park is appropriate having regard to the location at the centre of the town and its established use by many families. The proposed works at the Park are recognition by the Council of the importance of play facilities in the lives of children”.
Ennis Town Clerk, Mr. Leonard Cleary stated: “Involvement in sport and active recreational is important throughout life as it has a positive impact on our health and well-being. Furthermore, through sport, participants learn the value of being team players and team leadership skills are also developed”.
“In recent years, great progress has been made in the provision of recreational facilities in Ennis. The availability of sport, recreational and cultural facilities will further enhance Ennis as a place to live, visit and invest,” Mr. Cleary added.
Crawford Contracts Group Ltd commences construction of the Multi-Use Games Area this week. The facility is scheduled for completion by the end of July.
