United Approach To Promoting Ennis

A multi-agency initiative aimed at drawing visitors and tourists to Ennis in County Clare was launched at Glór today.
Mayor of Ennis Councillor Michael Guilfoyle joined interests from the tourism, hospitality, leisure, local government, retail and services sectors at the launch of the Visit Ennis Brochure for 2012.

Spearheaded by Ennis Town Council, Shannon Development and Ennis Chamber of Commerce, and supported by businesses throughout the town, the Brochure forms part of the Promote Ennis strategy to profile the town and County to visitors and tourists locally, nationally and internationally.

Today’s launch also featured an announcement by Promote Ennis of a series of other projects being undertaken, namely the Visit Ennis website (www.visitennis.ie), the Street Ambassador Programme and the Purple Flag Initiative.

Mayor Guilfoyle noted that the new brochure is a much more detailed and comprehensive publication that anything produced for Ennis in the past.

“While the Visit Ennis Brochure will be distributed at national and international tourism marketing events, it will also be targeted at Ireland’s growing domestic tourism market,” added Mayor Guilfoyle.

He continued: “One cannot presume that people throughout Ireland or, indeed, County Clare are fully aware of all of the services, activities and tourism attractions on offer in Ennis.  Initiatives such as this help to showcase the breadth and scale of the tourism product offered by the Clare County capital.”

The Visit Ennis Brochure contains extensive information on what Ennis has to offer in terms of shopping visitor attractions, accommodation and eating out, while it provides an insight into the history, heritage and culture of the medieval town. The high-gloss brochure also features a user-friendly map of the town, as well as suggested day trips from Ennis which cover North, West, South and East Clare.

Ennis Chamber President and Promote Ennis Chairperson, Brian O’Neill said he welcomed the collaborative approach being adopted by the Chamber, Council and Shannon Development in promoting Ennis as a visitor destination.

“The partner agencies involved with Promote Ennis feel this quality brochure will be a valuable asset in helping visitors to realise all that we have to offer in our beautiful town and county, which is why we have included four suggested all easily accessible and family friendly day trips. We believe this initiative will help to make Ennis and Clare the destination of choice in the Region,” Mr. O’Neill added.

“I would like to thank the members of the Promote Ennis Committee for their hard work, and also Edel Butler for her excellent design and graphics”, he concluded.

Commenting on the initiative, Siobhan King, Shannon Development’s Tourism Officer for County Clare said: “We are delighted to be working with our Promote Ennis partners to showcase the town as a national and international tourist destination. This new high gloss brochure is the first stage of developing a suit of new promotional material for the area.  It has been designed to capture the wide variety of activities, attractions and shopping available in Ennis while also promoting the wider tourism offerings throughout the county.”

Copies of the Visit Ennis Brochure will be distributed to Tourist Information Offices around County Clare, and also will be used by Shannon Development and other regional agencies during their promotion of County Clare overseas.
