Art For All During Fleadh Nua

A group of artists from the Ennis-based Vincent Killowry Art Group will be adding a splash of colour to the town during the annual Fleadh Nua Weekend.

‘Art for All’, an open-air art exhibition will take place in Friars Walk Car Park near the Temple Gate Hotel, between 11am and 4pm on Saturday 26th May

The initiative, which is based on a similar and very successful scheme hosted in St. Stephen’s Green in Dublin, was the brainchild of local art student Ann Cronin.

As someone who regularly attends the Fleadh, Ann proposed the provision of visual art to accompany the music during the Fleadh. Anne, a student of Vincent Killowry’s, presented her proposal to the Clare County Arts Office and Ennis Town Council.

Commenting on the initiative, County Arts Officer Siobhán Mulcahy stated: “It is wonderful to see local artists take the initiative and add to the cultural atmosphere of the town during the Fleadh Nua. Hopefully the weather will be kind to us. Depending on the success of this innovative venture, we may look to replicate it at other times throughout the year.”

“Operating as a pilot initiative, over a dozen of Vincent’s students will display their artworks in the open air.  Admission is free and members of the public are welcome to come to browse and support the artists,” added Ms. Mulcahy.
