President Higgins Invited To Receive Civic Reception From Limerick County Council

A Civic Reception will be held in honour of President of Ireland Michael D Higgins at Limerick County Hall in Dooradoyle in April.
Áras an Uachtaráin has confirmed that the President, accompanied by his wife Sabina Higgins, will travel to County Limerick for what is considered the highest honour that the Limerick County Council can bestow on any individual or group.

Limerick County Council issued an invitation to the President last month after Councillor Tomas Hannon’s (LAB) motion was unanimously support by the local authority’s 27 other elected members.  The date of the Civic Reception is expected to be confirmed in the coming fortnight.

Cllr. Mary Harty, Cathaoirleach of Limerick County Council, said she looked forward to welcoming the President and his wife to Limerick County Hall.

She continued: “Limerick County Council is delighted that the President has accepted its invitation to attend a Civic Reception in his honour. While he was born in Limerick, President Higgins was raised in County Clare and spent much of his adult life in Galway. However, the President continues to visit the City and County on a regular basis”.

“In hosting a Civic Reception in honour of President Michael D. Higgins, the Council also is recognising the Office of the President of Ireland and all those who have represented the country with distinction. A Civic Reception is the highest accolade at the disposal of Limerick County Council for any individual, group or organisation and one that is, for President Higgins, thoroughly deserved”, stated the Cathaoirleach.
