Adare’s growing status as a centre for tourist and commercial activity will be further strengthened from 1-4 July when thousands of people flock to the 2011 Adare Village Festival.
Next month’s event in the picturesque County Limerick village is sponsored by Shannon Development, Limerick County Council, Pallas Foods and Limerick Racecourse.
Limerick fashion stylist Celia Holman Lee joined a host of festival participants in Adare today for the official announcement of details of the fifth annual festival of culture and heritage.
Festival highlights include the Adare Village Festival Raceday at Limerick Racecourse, a fashion show profiling Adare’s boutiques, Mid Summer Barn Dance, live music, local and national art exhibitions, food and craft markets, street entertainment, and history and heritage tours.
Chairperson of the Adare Business Association, Maeve Kelly said the Festival had managed to withstand problems faced by other festivals since the economic downturn by providing a unique weekend for visitors to ‘Ireland’s prettiest village’.
“We are very proud of Adare’s rich and varied culture and history, and this is reflected in the Festival programme. Next month’s festival also will provide a timely economic boost to Adare as well as help to further promote the village as an attractive visitor destination for the growing domestic tourist market. This year’s festival is themed around fashion and food. A range of events will showcase Adare’s wonderful boutiques and array of restaurants”, she commented.
Ms. Kelly described the four-day festival as a relaxing and family-friendly event.
“The involvement of so many musicians, artists, literary figures and members of the local community will no doubt contribute greatly to the diverse programme of events. On behalf of the organising committee, I would like to thank the many individuals and organisations in Adare and throughout the region who have helped organise this year’s festival”, Ms. Kelly stated.
According to John Crowe, Shannon Development's Limerick Tourism Development Manager: “Shannon Development is delighted to be associated with the Adare Village Festival. The Festival reinforces one of Limerick’s predominant tourism brands, namely cultural tourism. As “Ireland’s Prettiest Village”, Adare has many cultural and heritage attractions and sites, which in addition to the rich history of the village itself is available for the visitor to enjoy through the many events programmed over the four-day festival."
Attractions include street entertainment and other nightly sessions in venues around Adare, a local Irish food and craft showcase, a golf classic, historical and heritage exhibitions and workshops, family fun day and barbeque, storytelling, and guided tours of Adare’s many heritage attractions. Family street theatre will include Magic Shows, Salsa Demos, Stagecraft Drama, Puppet Shows Pony Rides, Golf Ball Derby, Duck Races and the Twilight Tapas.
The Adare Village Festival 2011 is organised by the Adare Business Association, comprising local business and community representatives.
Tickets for the Mid Summer Barn Dance are available at the Heritage Centre, Adare Manor, Voke’s, Lohan’s, Adare Cleaners, Adare Post Office, Serendipity Shoe Boutique and in each of Adare’s pubs. Tickets for the Bonnets & Bows event are on sale from Adare Manor.
