Clare Tourism Operators Unite To Promote Local Sector

Over 150 tourism operators from throughout County Clare last night participated in the Gala Clare Tourism Networking Evening at the Armada Hotel in Spanish Point.

The purpose of the free business-to-business event, which was hosted by the Clare Tourism Forum, was to provide tourism providers with the opportunity to showcase their respective operations to the wider County Clare tourism Industry.  The event also featured over 80 tourism information stands.

Joe Russell, Chair of the Clare Tourism Forum and General Manager at Doonbeg Golf Club said collaboration and networking among local tourism operators would be key to the sector’s ability to attract new business and ensure the overall development of the County’s tourism product.

He continued: “We have much to be proud of in Clare in terms of the range and quality of tourism products on offer to visitors. The ongoing work by members of the Forum in the County, in conjunction with regional development agencies and local communities, to develop a quality tourism product places Clare in good stead to benefit from the eventual recovery of the global economy.”

“On behalf of the Forum members, I would like to pay tribute to the commitment of Clare’s tourism operators to maintaining their operations to a very high standard and ensuring that visitors to the County, domestic and foreign alike, are provided with a unique and memorable experience”, Mr. Russell added.

Clare Tourism Forum marketing executive Maureen Cleary also noted the contribution of tourism interests around the County to contributing to the development of the sector.

Ms. Cleary added: “A significant amount of work has been conducted by Forum members to promote the sector at local and national level. Efforts are continuing to take advantage of the growing domestic market, as well as the anticipated influx of tourists arising out of the recent State visits.”

Meanwhile, golfers from around Ireland are currently participating in the Clare Ultimate Golf Challenge.  All proceeds raised by the event will go towards the Clare Tourism Forum’s 2012 marketing campaign.

In the only competition of its kind in Ireland golfers must play at least five of Clare’s ten golf courses between April and September, after which the top ranking teams will compete in a final to be held at the Greg Norman designed links course in Doonbeg on 25th October. Other participating courses include Lahinch, Dromoland, Ennis, Woodstock, Shannon, Spanish Point, Kilrush, Kilkee and East Clare.
