‘Novel’ Self-Service System Launched At Dooradoyle Library

Limerick County Library has introduced an express checkout service for customers at its Dooradoyle branch.

The new automated system has been specifically designed for the fast and efficient checkout of all library materials.

Welcoming the initiative Cllr. Richard Butler, Cathaoirleach of Limerick County Council said: “I would like to congratulate the County Librarian and his staff for continuing to further enhance the quality of service being provided at Dooradoyle Library. Many library users will know the benefits of self-service from other service areas such as banks and supermarkets so can see how these benefits will translate to their visit to Dooradoyle Library.”

“This new self-service technology allows the library to stay up to date and continue to be a technology leader in the community. It is a vital new resource in the ongoing effort to increase efficiency and maintain high levels of customer satisfaction”, added the Cathaoirleach.

Commenting on the new service, County Librarian Damien Brady explained: “As libraries are now proving more popular and busier than ever, the new self-service unit will help reduce customer wait time and long queues for busy library patrons by offering a fast-track check-out service. The self-service machine will also ensure increased confidentiality and privacy for the borrower.”

“The self-service system also will create more time for staff to interact directly with customers on tasks that require a more personal touch, such as answering research questions, explaining the resources of the library and recommending your next good read”, Mr. Brady added.
