Limerick County Council this evening said that due to the necessity to carry out repairs on the water supply network following the recent thaw and the low levels in reservoirs, it will be necessary to shut off water supplies.
Water will be shut off this evening and restored tomorrow morning.
The following are the areas particularly affected this evening but as the water supply is being constantly monitored other areas may also experience reduced water pressure or water shut offs.
Abbeyfeale Public Water Supply shut off from 7pm this evening with water being restored at 9am tomorrow. Areas affected will include Abbeyfeale Town and surrounding areas, Templglantine, Rathcahill, Tournafulla, Mountmahon, Ballagh, Knocknasna, Cratloe, Coolwest, Parkanna, Templeathea, Athea Village and Direen.
Rathkeale Public Water Supply shut off from 10pm this evening with water being restored at 9am tomorrow morning. Areas affected will be Rathkeale Town and surrounding areas. There will also be a shut of water supplies in the Coolcappagh area with water being restored tomorrow.
Oola, Pallasgreen Upper including Nicker and Corelish water shut off this evening and other areas near these towns may experience reduced water pressure. Again water is to be restored tomorrow morning.
Galbally, Hospital, Herbertstown and Kilteely may experience reduced water pressure and have water shut off this evening. Water is to be restored tomorrow morning.
Newcastle West Public Supply water shut off this evening from 7pm and water to be restored tomorrow morning at 9am. Areas affected include Newcastle West Town and surrounding environs.
Areas other than those mentioned above may also have night time restrictions in service until water levels are restored to normal. Where there are water shut-offs, it can take a number of hours for areas at the extremity of watermains and hilly areas to have their water supply restored once the supply is turned back on.
In addition, due to breakages in watermains, unannounced disruptions to water supply can also be expected during daytime hours pending repairs of such breakages. Householders are again requested to check for burst pipes in their houses and the owners/landlords of unoccupied houses are also requested to check for leaks and burst pipes in unoccupied houses
