39,250 euro in grant funding has been allocated to Clare Haven Services under the Equality for Women Measure (EWM) 2010-2013.
The Ennis-based service was one of 43 projects nationwide to benefit from the funding announcement by Minister of State for Equality, Integration and Human Rights, Ms. Mary White, T.D.
The grant aid will enable a mix of community groups and national bodies to provide developmental support and training for women currently outside the labour market with a view to helping them return to work; or to support female entrepreneurs or to help advance the development of women already in the workforce.
Welcoming the funding announcement, Minister for Defence and Clare T.D. Mr. Tony Killeen said: “I am delighted that grant aid has been allocated to Clare Haven Services Limited to allow the service to continue to make available support, information and refuge accommodation to women and their children experiencing domestic violence and abuse. I wish to congratulate the service for providing an integrated, coordinated, community-based response to domestic abuse and by working towards long-term prevention of domestic abuse.”
Minister Killeen explained that the Equality for Women Measure helps women take control of their economic lives through training and support to develop employment and enterprise opportunities.
“The 43 projects that have been successful under the Equality for Women Measure programme will offer over 1,800 women a variety of training and support options to enable them to prepare for employment, starting a business or advance their careers. Ultimately, it enables women to think about where they want to be and what they want to achieve”, he added.
The Minister noted that the Equality for Women Measure programme also contributes to the implementation of the National Women's Strategy 2007-2016 by targeting women who want to achieve economic independence.
